Bob Semple was freed by a crack team, including troops from the SAS, with special forces seizing him from the desert compound where he was being held. The 64-year-old engineer had been locked up in terrible conditions after being captured by the Islamist fanatics in February last year. The terrorists thought they were close to agreeing a ransom fee for his life when he was sprung from the camp by a large team of special forces.Today, in his first interview since the dramatic rescue, he said he was “delighted and relieved” to be back home with his family following a gruelling 18-month ordeal.

His release was secured by an international team of soldiers taking part in a military intelligence operation led by the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
