The House wraps up its final week of work for the summer with a flurry of last-minute floor votes and a series of hearings into the controversial nuclear deal with Iran.
The secretaries of state, treasury and energy will return to Capitol Hill on Tuesday to reprise the defense of the deal that they delivered to senators last week. The House Armed Services Committee will discuss the negotiations a day later, offering its first public take on the matter.
Neither the Iran deal nor the 2016 defense authorization bill are expected to reach floor votes this week. But the Senate is expecting to finalize a host of military nominations, including confirmation of Marine Gen. Joseph Dunford Jr. to be the next chairman of the Joint Chiefs.
Both chambers could considering new accountability reforms for the Veterans Affairs Department, along with a short-term VA funding fix, before the recess begins.
