President Obama visits Capitol Hill on Tuesday night for his annual State of the Union address, and Democrats leave Washington a day later for their biennial party-organizing retreat. That makes for another light week of hearings on the Hill.
The two chambers Veterans’ Affairs committees will formally organize this week, and the Senate panel could consider several pieces of veterans legislation already moved by the House, including the Clay Hunt suicide prevention act. The new Republican-controlled Senate Armed Services Committee will launch its first hearing of a promised series on global security, featuring prominent conservative national security figures.
