Pentagon Says Iranian Drone Does Not Match U.S. Technology

The U.S. military says an Iranian drone that Tehran described as an improved replica of an unarmed U.S. aircraft captured in 2011 is an inferior copy.

Pentagon spokesman Colonel Steve Warren was asked about the issue after Iranian state television aired footage of what it said was a test flight of the unarmed drone.

“There is no way it matches American technology,” Warren told a news briefing on November 12.

Iran said In December 2011 that it had captured a U.S. RQ-170 Sentinel reconnaissance drone in eastern Iran.

The drone had been reported lost by U.S. forces in neighboring Afghanistan.

The commander of aerospace forces of Iran’s elite Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps said Iranian scientists had improved the efficiency of the American drone.
