Indian Su-30 crashes near Pune

The Indian Air Force (IAF) suffered its sixth crash this year on 14 October when a Sukhoi Su-30MKI multirole aircraft crashed 20 km from Pune.

The aircraft took off on a routine training sortie from Lohegaon Air Force Base (AFB) in Pune at 1715 local time and crash-landed in a nearby village on its approach back to the airfield at 1741. Both the pilot and the weapon systems operator bailed out safely.

Loheagon AFB commander Air Commodore V R Chaudhry told Indian media that the crash “appears to be the result of a technical problem. A court of inquiry has been ordered to ascertain the cause”.
