A Turkish Navy Sikorsky S-70B Sea Hawk helicopter crashed on 12 October in western Turkey, killing four on board, according to the Turkish General Staff (TGS).

The helicopter had taken-off from Kartepe Cengiz Topel military airport in Izmit in western Turkey and was en route to the central Anatolian town of Konya for a military exercise when it crashed in the Kocaeli region, according to the TGS.

The TGS said an investigation is being launched to find out the cause of the crash.

By 1998 Turkey had received eight S-70B Sea Hawk helicopters under a USD317.4 million contract with Sikorsky.
