Russia’s new Armata MBT to make its debut in 2015

The Russian Land Forces are to receive a first batch of 32 Armata main battle tanks (MBTs) in 2015, Russia’s Land Forces Commander, Colonel General Oleg Salyukov, has stated. The new MBT is expected to make its public debut at the 2015 Victory Day Parade in Moscow, he also revealed.

Research and development (R&D) efforts are currently underway to create new armament systems for Russian incoming armoured vehicles, including the Armata MBT, Kurganets-25 tracked infantry fighting vehicle (IFV), and Boomerang 8×8 armoured personnel carrier (APC). The R&D work is scheduled for completion by the end of next year, according to Gen Salyukov.
