U.S. not ready to launch offensive cyber attacks, charges Congressman

Despite calls for action, the private sector is not prepared for the ramifications of an offensive cyber attack by the U.S. government against antagonistic nation states and rogue foreign organizations, according to Rep. Mike Rogers (R-MI), chairman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence.

In the same vein, the government itself is not prepared to launch such attacks, he said, as they have yet to develop a cohesive policy on how they should occur and when (and against who) it would be warranted.

“You’d be surprised at how far we are to an offensive policy,” Rogers said during a conference on cybersecurity Wednesday.
