Niger, Kenya to get Cessna 208 ISR aircraft

Niger is to get two Cessna 208B Caravan light aircraft that have been converted into intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) platforms, the US Defence Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) has told IHS Jane’s .

Kenya will also get a 208B converted to ISR capability, the agency said.

The conversions will be carried out by L-3 Communications under a USD31 million contract announced by the US Department of Defense on 18 September.

The DSCA said the contract also included “ISR-related ancillaries” for two Cessnas delivered to Mauritania earlier this year.

The US embassy in Mauritania’s capital Nouakchott announced on 25 June that two 208Bs with “specialised equipment” had been handed over to the Mauritanian military as part of a USD21 million donation by the United States.
